In an exclusive interview with MEE from aboard one of the Global Sumud Flotilla boats destined for Gaza, vocal Palestine activist Greta Thunberg described the initiative as "inspired by the words of Palestinians."

As the flotilla continues its journey across the Mediterranean, Thunberg condemned the complicity of Western governments and the silence of ordinary citizens, saying it was "disgusting" that so few were willing to protest "when people are fighting for their lives to survive and to sustain their families."

She also criticised the lack of outrage over recent comments by Sweden’s vice prime minister, Ebba Busch, who claimed Israel was "doing the world a favour," calling the remark "appalling" and emblematic of a wider political and systemic failures.
