Rengoku's death in Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was necessary for both Tanjiro's character development and the overall plot of the series. His sacrifice motivated Tanjiro and gave him something to strive for, while also establishing the threat of the demons.

Sadly, he met his end in the series towards the conclusion of the Mugen Train arc. In the manga, Rengoku died in chapter 66. On the other hand, he passed away in season 2 episode 7 of the anime.
