This time, Gulliver is "TRE Holdings," a company that uses advanced technology to repurpose all kinds of waste into resources.
Annual sales of 118.6 billion yen, approximately 2,400 employees.
The group consists of 35 companies, with Takeei, which specializes in construction waste disposal, and River, which specializes in ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap collection and home appliance recycling, playing key roles.
Waste materials such as wood and metal from construction sites, scrap from dismantled automobiles, used diapers (an increasing number due to the aging population), and solar panels (a concern regarding mass disposal) are all considered difficult to recycle.
Takeei's recycling center in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, receives up to 700 tons of construction waste from the Tokyo metropolitan area on busy days.
This waste is sorted using heavy machinery and optical sorters and recycled into a solid fuel called RPF.
In addition, aluminum and other materials are separated and recovered from scrap automobiles and small appliances using a method called heavy liquid sorting, which takes advantage of differences in specific gravity, and shipped to automakers as raw materials.
The solar panels seen everywhere these days are said to have a lifespan of 20 to 30 years, and it is predicted that mass disposal will begin in the near future.
Because solar panels are composite products made from multiple materials, including metal, plastic, and glass, recycling poses many challenges. However, a company affiliated with TRE Holdings is working to recover resources from these panels.
Furthermore, the company aims to eventually introduce automated dismantling of end-of-life vehicles and launch a "car-to-car" business, regenerating new vehicles from these vehicles.
We take a closer look at TRE Holdings' efforts to transform waste into resources in order to protect the global environment and limited resources.
